For those of us health junkies, juicing has become a daily routine! Whether you drink green juices for weight loss or for your daily intake of fruits and vegetables, juicing is beneficial for your body, both internally and externally. Many people are afraid of juicing because of the vibrant and sometimes unattractive color of the juice, however, fresh juices can be delicious if you add the right ingredients. For beginners, I would say to add mostly fruits and a few vegetables with a subtle taste, such as chard or cucumber. In any case, the key to juicing is knowing how each ingredient will benefit your body.
1. Apples
Apples are often used as a base for juices because is gives the juice a sweet taste. As for its benefits, apples are great for cholesterol, digestion, and the immune system.
2. Pineapples
Pineapples are great for so many things! They help prevent and dissolve blood clots and aid in digesting proteins. Pineapples are also an anti-inflammatory great for swelling after surgery or something. Plus, pineapple juice is rumored to help you smell good down there ladies!
3. Berries
Berries have tons of antioxidants and can be good for the cardiovascular system, the urinary system, and menstrual cramps.
4. Cabbage
Cabbage is a great vegetable for juicing because it won't change the taste of the juice. Cabbage prevents against cancer and is great for people with ulcer problems.
5. Celery
Celery is a very strong tasting vegetable. In my opinion, it can be overpowering and can rule out the taste of the other ingredients in your juice. But celery is high in potassium which is great for blood pressure. Celery is great for bloating as well!
6. Carrots
Don't be scared by the bright orange color this will make your juice, carrots will actually give your juice a sweet taste. Carrots are great for the immune system, the arteries, and preventing cancer. Carrots are also considered brain food and can help your complexion!
7. Parsley
Parsley is full of chlorophyll which is great for your blood. It is great for the kidney and gallstones and it supports the heart.
8. Citrus Fruits
I love adding citrus into my juice because it covers the taste of the veggies! While citrus fruits can be very beneficial, too much can add too much acidity to your body. However, citrus is full of vitamin C and prevent cancer.
In case you were wondering, I do have a juicer for at home, however I realized that I was spending more money to juice at home than to just go to Nektar or Whole Foods and pick up a juice. So I prefer to just stop by for a hydrating juice for breakfast or after my workouts! =)
